Don't miss out on what's happening now

How often is your attention drawn into the past or future when you really need to be in the present?

This weekend I sat for ages with my camera waiting for a bird to land on a gate. Patience isn’t my strength so I saw it as an opportunity to test myself. In the past I have observed many garden birds land on one of the gates to my garden. They stop to check their path is clear before flying  onwards to the bird table. So, it made sense if I sat for long enough, quiet enough, I would get that perfect shot of a little bird perched on a rustic gate.

But in actual fact I was so focused on what might happen, I didn’t see what was right in front of me, a gate beautifully framed by the Laurel hedging and the sun reflecting on its leaves.

So, what did I learn? Don’t focus on what has been or what might happen because I’ll miss what is happening right now which actually is rather good too!
